I had a goal, and now i'm closer than ever to it.
When I was younger I had fantasies. (Not those kind, you twit). "what would be in my dream garage?" I would ponder. After way to much time thinking of it I came down to a couple of basics I needed to have:
1. A fun car
2. A diesel
3. A truck or van of some sort
Then reality hit me like an inattentive Camry driver... in the form of a silver 2003 Camry. Despite my love of trucks, fast cars, an belching black smoke I grew fond of my Toyota. It did what I needed it to do and then some. I could stuff enough components in that thing to build 3 world challenge race car chassis (ask me how i know) keep up with humdrum traffic, and get 24-6ish mpgs. Not bad if you ask me.
But then it hit me. I'm not closer to my goal and even more my goal was in need of an adjustment.
A month ago the Camry found a new home with a nice lady who had a C4 Corvette and a baby on the way. a deal was made and now i'm the proud owner of a Beautiful black targa equipped 'Vette. Sure, its not perfect but, its fast, its solid, and doesn't give any hints that its closer to 30 years old than I am.
Fun car? Check. (picture is not of my car because I always forget to take pictures but you get the idea)
But then that leaves my wife's 2008 Fusion v6. It wasn't working for us any more. It was thirsty for being a glorified commuter car. It would throw random check engine lights and funny sounds would scare my wife into not driving it. And what's worse when I come home to see what it's doing, sure enough, I wouldn't have wanted her to drive it. It wasn't making sense time wise and financially. It was a non performance gasoline engine and I have fallen out of love with that particular use of that technology.
So last night, we bought a new Jetta TDI. The space inside FELT the same, the features were better and everything that mattered to her was there. When the salesman and his boss dropped their pants on the price we couldn't say no. I had always loved these Diesel cars and now my wife does too.
Diesel? Check
Now about trucks. I have since decided that I don't need to own a truck. Sure i haul and tow stuff but it is for other people who already have the truck and trailer that they need. If I ever need to borrow one i have a few good friends that would lend me theirs in a heart beat because (1) I pay for the fuel plus some, (2) I have a lot of experience driving large trucks, and (3) I fix their trucks when they break 'em. not to mention daily rental from U-Haul or Lowe's is cheap.
So trucks? check.
Now to just put my Yamaha 600 back together...
